This main title treatment uses a high contrast visual style to illustrate themes of the era such as slavery, violence, oppression, and religion, and other key motifs present throughout the story. Use of negative space speaks to the themes of race and the conflicting duality of peoples' values during the time. The drips become a metaphor for the blood, sweat, and tears of the time, and work as a vehicle for transitions between title cards.
